Transforming Lives: A Case Study
How one boy’s incredible journey demonstrates the vision and mission of Willpower Care & Support
At Willpower Care & Support, our mission is to empower NDIS participants of all abilities to live rich, active, and dignified lives while maintaining or growing their independence.
One such story of Alec*, a 7-year-old boy in our care, presented to us with multiple diagnoses of autism, intellectual disability, and was non-verbal. It was a challenge to find the right level of care and support he needed due to our lack of understanding. However, the team at Willpower persevered.
As support coordinators, we searched the NDIS support registers and found an Occupational Therapist, speech therapist, and early childhood intervention therapist to serve as his allied health support team.
This team was tight-knit and worked in tandem with one another, all keeping us, stakeholders, and family apprised of Alec’s progress. They were all highly committed to supporting Alec’s development.
By continually training his parents and our own support workers, we maintained a consistent level of support and therapy for Alec. This led to incredible breakthroughs in just seven months!
Our team of professionals, support workers, and parents were able to toilet train Alec and have him self-soothe when frustrated. His temper tantrums decreased by 70% as a result. He was soon able to use a communications method to express his needs and wants, and even learned how to set the table for his parents and himself ahead of a meal.

This was all made possible due to our commitment to Alec, our close collaboration with his allied health and therapy team, and laying out clear and easy to follow instructions for all stakeholders.
We ensured each part of his support network were fully trained, gained the requisite experience, and were executing the mission and vision of Willpower Care’s remit.
We ensured each facet of his support team delivered therapy and support accurately and methodically, establishing routines for Alec. This made the learning process as easy and relaxed as possible, which led to some truly amazing results.
Throughout the course of his time with us, we endeavoured to treat him with the respect all people deserve, included all stakeholders in decision making as much as possible, and built support structures on a foundation of integrity and transparency.
